Building Together!

It is hard to imagine that two decades ago, Markham Stouffville Hospital had a surplus of inpatient beds and there was no waiting line in the emergency department.  Today our beds are full and there is usually a wait in our emergency departmnt, except for our most acutely ill patients.  We have grown and changed while continuing to support the health-care needs of our patients and their families in a facility that is simply not big enough.

With the groundbreaking ceremony taking place in December 2010, it has been an incredible year. This is our first major expansion project since we opened our doors more than 20 years ago. While the construction is on track, it is the milestones we share with our families that are our motivation for expanding. From celebrating the birth of a little one, to a visit to our emergency department, to the illness or loss of a loved one; we hope we have been here for you when you needed us.  We know that you have been there when we needed you.

The next few years will be very exciting. We expect to complete our new building in early 2013 and then begin extensive renovations to the existing facility. Our team has already started working to make our move to the new building seamless and safe.

Just as our new building is going up, brick by brick, floor by floor, we are also seeing the early results of our fundraising efforts come together. None of this progress would be possible without the generous support from our community - the individuals, organizations, corporate partners and event sponsors who have come together to support compassionate, patient-centered care at Markham Stouffville Hospital.  Our generous donors are the key to achieving our vision of providing excellent care to everyone who comes through our doors.  Every penny counts!
