Falls Programs

Falls represent a serious health problem for seniors in our community, and a significant challenge for their families. A fall can have a significant impact on a person’s level of independence and quality of life. At Markham Stouffville Hospital, we design our programs to promote prevention, transfer of knowledge and self-management.

Services & Procedures

Falls Prevention Program

A multi-disciplinary, small-group exercise program, emphasizing education and functional exercises to improve lower extremity strength, balance and functional mobility. Our innovative program promotes lifestyle changes to improve self-management of falls, and fall-related behaviours.

Falls Clinic

Following a physician referral, our interdisciplinary team of nursing staff, physiotherapists and geriatricians contributes to an assessment of a senior considered at-risk of falling, or a patient who has already suffered a fall.
