What is a Healthcare-Associated Infection? Healthcare-associated infections happen through the spread of microorganisms such as bacteria or viruses. These microorganisms are found in the community, at home, in schools and at work.
Healthcare-associated Infections happen when a patient gets an infection during their stay in a hospital that they did not have before their stay.
